Paula Abdul says she’s “squeaky clean” and “[has] never done recreational drugs”
You know how people tend to repeat things when they’re drunk? They say the same thing over and over, perhaps hoping that others will either pay attention or believe them if they repeat themselves enough? In completely separate, totally unrelated news, Paula Abdul is again insisting that she has never been drunk, and also says she’s never touched drugs, although she admits to using prescription medication.
In this week’s Us Weekly, she says, “I’ve never been drunk. I have never done recreational drugs. Just look at my 20-year career. Tell me someone who is into partying or doing drugs that could have done that,” according to the AP.
(Aside to Paula: Arguing that it’s impossible to be a successful singer/performer while using alcohol and drugs might not be your best defense here, considering how many performers there are whose careers thrived while/because they were coked up and high.)
Paula also tells the magazine that “There have been 100 million lies about me. I’m squeaky clean. I’ve worked my ass off my entire life. (But) being involved in the show causes people to question everything.” She adds, “I have never missed a live show. Even when I had surgery on my hand (for an infection caused by a botched manicure in 2004), I left my hospital bed to go to the show.”
