Paula Abdul’s “number-one fan” found dead near Paula’s home, auditioned during season 5
A woman who auditioned for American Idol 5 and was identified as judge Paula Abdul’s “number-one fan” was found dead of an apparent suicide outside of Paula’s house last night.
On the show, Paula Goodspeed, who identified herself as a student, said, “I really like Paula Abdul a lot. She’s really cool. I’m, like, a really-big fan. And I make life-sized drawings of Paula.” Introducing Paula Goodspeed’s audition segment, Ryan Seacrest said, “Brace yourself, Paula; your number-one fan is on the way.”
LAPD officer April Harding told People that Goodspeed’s death “has been ruled an apparent suicide.” She was found in her car, and the magazine reports that “[t]he car, parked a few doors down from Abdul’s house, featured a license plate ‘ABL LV’ and had a photo of Abdul hanging from the rear view mirror.”
In a statement, Paula Abdul said, “I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday. My heart and prayers go out to her family.”
