Taylor Hicks dropped from J Records

Having dumped Ruben Studdard in December, J Records is now ditching another American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks.

“Taylor is going to record his next album on his own. He is no longer on the J Records roster,” a label representative told Entertainment Weekly. His first album didn’t sell well after debuting with the third-best numbers of any winner.

In an interview with the Birminaham News conducted last week, Taylor didn’t mention being droppped, but said about his second record, “I think I’ll have a lot more freedom creatively this go-around. I’ll also have the time now to create an album without the post-winning-‘Idol’ constrictions. I have time for the album to breathe artistically.”
