Taylor Hicks signs with Arista/19; Katharine’s first single will be Over the Rainbow

Taylor Hicks has officially “signed with show creator Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings Limited and Arista Records,” according to Billboard. His single “Do I Make You Proud” / “Takin’ It To The Streets” is out June 13, and his first record “is expected later this year.”

Meanwhile, Katharine McPhee’s first single, released June 27, will apparently not be that piece of shit “My Destiny,” but will be replaced with her rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Amazon’s listing for her single shows the A-side (oh, how quaint to use vinyl record terms to refer to CDs that don’t really have sides) track as “My Destiny,” with the B-side being “Think.” Amazon’s title for the single shows, however, that “Think” has been replaced with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” although on the B-side. But the actual album cover art shows “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as the A-side single, which is a smart move, considering that, if played on the radio, the song will probably be responsible for dozens of traffic accidents as people let go of the wheel and use both hands to pull their radio from the console and hurl it out the window.
