Becky, Bobby, Patrick, and Stevie are the first Idols to be eliminated by the audience

Viewers have voted for the first time during American Idol 5, and the first four contestants to get the ax were Becky O’Donohue, Bobby Bennett, Patrick Hall, and Stevie Scott.

None of the eliminations surprised the judges or, really, the contestants, as the four had mediocre performances on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe if Becky’s Maxim photos had surfaced a few days earlier, she’d still be on the show—not that viewers vote based upon anything other than raw talent, of course.

The hour-long elimination show featured lots of filler and even more cruelty than last season, and on what NBC’s Dick Ebersol said would be “the most competitive night in the history of American television,” it’ll probably bulldoze figure skating, Dancing with the Stars 2, and everything else in its path.
