ArchivesTaylor Hicks, the debut album from American Idol 5 winner Taylor Hicks, hits stores today.
The album includes a combination of original songs, tracks Taylor previously recorded, covers, and songs written by some big names. USA TODAY reports that it “includes a cover of Marvin Gaye’s Wherever I Lay My Hat, tunes by Rob Thomas and Paul Peña, and Bryan Adams’ The Right Place, penned for Ray Charles, who died before he could record it. Hicks wrote Soul Thing and The Deal.”
Taylor tells the AP that the process of creating the album was “intimidating” and says he was “stubborn about my artistry and my creative integrity.” But the resulting record, he says, is “a great representation of me as an artist. … It’s like funk, soul, jazz, blues, a little bit of hip-hop beats and rhythms. It’s Taylor Hicks’ modern take on soul music.”
