19 Entertainment declines to sign Elliott Yamin
Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, and even Kellie Pickler have all been signed by 19 Entertainment, but the company has declined to sign Elliott Yamin, who placed third on American Idol 5.
“I will not be affiliated with 19 after the tour is over,” Elliott tells Entertainment Weekly. However, he says this is good news, because “I’m going to be able to make the music I want to make; that’s all I have to say.” In other words, he won’t be bound by whatever 19 wants him to do.
He adds that he and his management are “close to signing a deal in stone. … But I’m not worried about fading into obscurity. I come from obscurity. And me having a record deal is an inevitability.”
Elliott says he plans to record and album that will “have a funky, R&B vibe to it, that’s for sure. Not too watered down, not too overproduced. Just good music.”
