A year after her home caught fire and her dog died, American Idol 4 third-place finalist Vonzell Solomon’s home was sold in foreclosure, and just days ago, she was detained at an airport for carrying a gun through security.
Vonzell, also known as Baby V, bought the $405,000 house in January of 2006, but the “Bank of New York filed a foreclosure action against Solomon for the house at 6617 Canton St,” and “the foreclosure sale was set for 11 a.m. Monday on the second floor of the Lee County Courthouse in downtown Fort Myers,” the Ft. Myers News-Press reports. That house made news last May when “she lost her pet dog Minnie Mouse and $200,000 worth of belongings in a late-night fire.”
As if all of that wasn’t bad enough, just last week, Vonzell, who was once a mail carrier in southwest Florida, was detained on Tuesday when she carried her unloaded, permitted concealed weapon—yes, an American Idol contestant is legally allowed to carry a gun—through security at the Southwest Florida International Airport.
The Naples Daily News reports that “TSA agents contacted Port Authority Police, who gave Solomon a notice to appear in court and canceled her seat on the flight. … Solomon will likely face a misdemeanor charge at her court appearance, [Port Authority spokesperson Barbara-Anne] Urrutia said. If found guilty, she would probably pay a fine, the spokeswoman added.”
Vonzell released a statement that said, “I in no way intended to enter the plane with a firearm. I was rushing to make a scheduled flight and simply did not realize it was in my handbag until I went through security.”
