Leroy watched his Idol debut from jail.
One of American Idol 4’s most memorable disasters of an audition came from Leroy Wells, who E! Online describes as “the energetic, unintelligible rapper-singer-stomper who moved the Idol judges to boogie.” Unfortunately for Leroy, he had to watch his national debut from jail. He “was arrested Jan. 5 in Mobile for allegedly shooting a 39-year-old man in the hip following an argument, Mobile Police Corporal Marcus Young” told E!. He was released on bail Wednesday, but in jail on Tuesday, “he and other inmates caught the show on a jailhouse set.” Had he passed the audition stage, Leroy would not have been long for the show, as “he’s been busted at least eight times,” E! reports.
