about 750 people will move on in Cleveland, Idol’s biggest audition ever.
Yesterday, 15,000 people showed up to audition for American Idol 4, the largest group yet. “Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said the Cleveland crowd of an estimated 15,000 was the biggest he’s seen in the show’s four years,” the AP reports. “By comparison, between 12,000 and 13,000 people auditioned last year in New York.” Despite that crowd size, chances of moving on in the competition weren’t that bad: Lythgoe “estimated about 750 performers would move on to the second round of auditions.” Assuming my math is right, and it rarely is, that’s a 1 in 20 shot at coming back for the next round. Today, individual auditions take place; yesterday was group audition day; the celebrity judging panel shows up later this month, according to the Plain Dealer’s report.
