Apparently Simon Cowell has more power than he thought: After saying Jasmine Trias had “better hope every household in Hawaii has at least five telephones because you’re going to need all the support you can get tonight, seriously”, she got all the support she needed from the state. After American Idol 3 on Tuesday, Verizon says “Hawaii residents attempted a record 5 million cellular and landline calls.” And “[o]f those, 1.3 million calls got through—another record,” a Verizon spokesperson tells E! That’s an amazing number in part because Hawaii has only about 1.2 million residents. Verizon says about that many calls, 1.2 million, came from New Jersey that night.
