Next year’s Super Bowl, airing on FOX, could feature American Idol stars as the halftime show. Although the NFL says such speculation is “beyond premature,” the New York Post reports “the idea of an ‘Idol’ halftime show seems like a slam dunk.” And USA TODAY ‘s Rudy Martzke reported last week that Fox Sports Chairman David “Hill said Fox might suggest a halftime show involving all the winners of the network’s top-rated American Idol show.” “Might suggest”—that sounds pretty definitive to me. Overseas, copycats of reality shows abound, including an Idol rip-off in Thailand. But “networks are slowly choosing big brand backup over homegrown imitations,” Variety reports.
