is “The Myth, The Singing and Dancing LEGEND—William Hung” a fake?
Undoubtedly, the audition highlight of American Idol 3 was William Hung, the 20-year-old man-child who sang and danced to a Ricky Martin song that will never be the same again. So it’s only right that he be immortalized on the web on a fan site created by two “self-professed American Idol junkies.” There, you can watch his performance of “She Bangs” and decide for yourself whether to laugh or cry, because it’s impossible to capture in words. However, in a MetaFilter thread discussing the site, Mach3avelli says, “My friend is friends with him at Berkeley. The whole shtick is an act, and a very convincing one too.” The “friend of a friend” thing sounds fishy, but maybe I just want to believe in William. Then again, another user points out William’s name shortens to “Willy Hung.” Could he be a fake? If so, step aside, best actor contenders, and hand an Oscar to this guy.
