Idol finalist Jaered acquitted of assault.
American Idol 2 finalist Jaered Andrews, who was removed from the show after the fourth episode, was charged with assault after he punched a guy who “fondled a female friend of Andrews who had passed out.” The man Jaered punched fell down and died as a result of the fall. Jaered “wasn’t charged with homicide because prosecutors didn’t believe he purposely or negligently caused [the man’s] death,” the AP reports; the jury agreed that he fought in self-defense, and found him not guilty. Initially dismissed from the show after it was revealed he was a member of an Ohio hip-hop group, Jaered “maintains he was kicked off because of the bar incident,” according to the AP. Jaered had no comment.
