MTV Europe’s president said that Idol-type shows “make good TV but from a musical point of view, they do not have any value,” The Sydney Morning Herald reports. Brent Hansen criticizes “disposable and ephemeral” music and says “I totally believe they have devalued us, taken us back to light entertainment and voyeurism.” Ah yes, and MTV has nothing to do with light entertainment and voyeurism. Nothing. At. All. Meanwhile, in the land of Idol shows hurting the music biz, Clay Aiken’s Measure of a Man is about to go platinum, although it dropped to third place on Billboard’s chart, a thousand copies from first place.
