Clay, Ruben’s albums due Aug. 19.
RCA will release Clay and Ruben’s full-length albums on the same day: August 19. Kelly Clarkson’s first album was supposed to drop Nov. 26, but came out nearly five months later. RCA’s sales director tells Billboard, “We saw the [simultaneous] releases as a way for consumers to vote with their money,” and they’re continuing that with the albums. Billboard also talked to Clay’s spokesperson, who said, “Release dates could change.” Meanwhile, Clay’s single outsold Ruben’s by more than 105,000 copies its first week, putting Clay at number one, Ruben at number two, and the American Idol 2 finalists at number three. Also, Clay is on the cover of this week’s Rolling Stone, and in the magazine he says he’s been contacted by his abusive birth father. He says, “My mother was beaten by this man, and he never tried to be a father to me, ever. … I don’t want to give him the time of day.”
