7.5 million text messages were sent for American Idol 2 votes, polls.
During American Idol 2, AT&T Wireless says that more than 7.5 million text messages were sent. MediaDailyNews reports that on April 8, “viewers sent over 2.5 million messages. Peak traffic immediately following the show exceeded one thousand messages per second.” And “nearly one-third of the people sending messages for American Idol had never used text-messaging before,” which is remarkable because text messaging, or SMS, has not caught on yet in the US as it has elsewhere in the world.
