American Idol 2 down to 32; FOX angry about CBS Star Search ad.
Simon, Paula, and Randy narrowed the American Idol 2 field dramatically to 32 semi-finalists who will begin performing next week in groups of eight. Viewers, like last year, will vote for the contestants they want to keep. Those eight people will join two wild cards selected by the judges, who are now otherwise relegated to making comments. The semi-final rounds start next Tuesday as the show settles into its 8 p.m. ET time slot, with the booted contestants revealed on the following night, Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET. Also, producers of American Idol are pissed off over CBS’ usage of a new ad that looks and feels a lot like one for their show. They’ve demanded CBS cease and desist airing an ad for Star Search that asks “Who will be ‘The Next American Teen Idol’?” and “adopts the neon-blue colors and script-letters of the ‘Idol’ logo,” the New York Post reports.
