Frenchie cast in musical’s lead role.
Frenchie Davis, booted from American Idol 2 for her prior appearance on an adult web site, has landed a role as the lead in Dreamgirls, a new musical. Frenchie tells Playbill that the role of Effie is similar to her life, because, the publication reports, “Effie was bumped from the Supremes-like group (the Dreams) in the fictional Motown musical fable and forced to pick up the pieces of a thwarted career.” The musical originated on Broadway in the early 1980s but is being revived on the West coast starting early next year. Frenchie says she’s not mad about getting booted from the show: “Everything happens for a reason. I’m not upset at all. I don’t know if I want ‘American Idol’ to define who I am as an artist and my career. There’s so much more to me than that. I think being kicked off blessed me with the opportunity to show that.”
