Initiative Media’s annual study of the similarities and differences between the top 20 shows in black and white households found that more black households watch American Idol while more white households watch Survivor Amazon. “Nearly 19% of black homes are watching American Idol on Tuesdays this season, compared with 11.5% of white homes,” USA TODAY reports. The reverse is true for other competition-oriented reality TV shows: “13.3% of white households tune in to Survivor: The Amazon, for example, just 7.5% of black homes do,” the paper reports. Overall the study shows an increasingly common list of top 20 shows.
