misspelled name blamed for missing Corey’s arrest; finalists’ single changed.
Monday, shortly after American Idol 2 contestant Corey Clark was revealed by The Smoking Gun to be about to stand trial for battering his teenage sister, producers eliminated him from the competition. Their official statement, reprinted by The Smoking Gun, says that he “withheld information about a prior arrest which, had it been known, might have affected his participation in the show.” On Tuesday’s show, Corey denied the charges but apologized to potential finalists, saying he didn’t say anythign because he “was scared.” Why didn’t FOX catch the arrest? The statement says it was “an error in a police report which misspelled Corey’s name.”
+ also: finalists charity single will now include “God Bless the USA” and Lee Greenwood’s “I’m Proud To Be an American,” not “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”
