report from AI2 auditions: bad singers advance, overweight people dropped.
The Miami auditions for American Idol 2 were “a disorganized ‘cattle call’ process” where bad singers were allowed to advance to provoke comments from Simon while overweight people were quickly dismissed, according to the St. Pete Times. One person who auditioned tells the paper that “they were weaning out (overweight) people” and “picking people who had no talent at all…hyping you up, just to drop you when you get in front of Simon.” A FOX spokesperson “denied that the show automatically rejected overweight contestants, but he did admit that producers were looking for both ‘the really great and the not-so-great’ performers,” Eric Deggans reports.
