American Idol reaches out to guitar players: “Now you can audition with your guitar!”
The 12th season of American Idol was the first in years to not be won by a guitar-playing white male (“WGWG,” as the Idol community nicknamed them), but the show is making sure that any contestants with guitars really feel welcome for its next season.
The Fox show’s web site announced this yesterday with a headline that declares: Now You Can Audition With Your Guitar! Finally!
There is a caveat, though, which is that auditioners have to prove they can sing without a guitar first: “each audition MUST start with an a capella piece and hopefuls will only be able to use their guitars after the a capella audition at the discretion of the producers,” the site says.
Cattle call auditions start tomorrow, and the show is also accepting online auditions.
