Larry King retiring, says Ryan Seacrest should replace him
Larry King is ending his CNN talk show and retiring this fall, he announced in a statement, and he also said that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest should replace him—although Survivor host Jeff Probst also wants the job.
That’s according to The AP, which reports that “King said if it was up to him, Ryan Seacrest would be the best choice to fill his shoes.”
For that kind of news-driven format, I think Seacrest is a bit too self-centered—it’s always about him and his relationship with the guest on his radio show—while Probst is definitely the better probing interviewer. But either would be an upgrade, considering that lately, Larry King seems to do little more than read prepared questions and ignore opportunities for follow-ups.
