Gay reality stars, American Idols ranked

There are so many former reality show stars now it’s nearly impossible to keep track of them all. But it’s definitely possible to rank groups of them, which is what two sites have recently done: for gay male reality stars and American Idol finalists.

First, After Elton polled its readers to find the 15 favorite gay male reality stars. Topping (ha!) the list is Real World New Orleans Danny Roberts; Marcellas Reynolds from Big Brother comes in last. Most disappointing for me is that drunk idiot Davis Mallory from The Real World Denver is on the list at all, at number 12, although he now calls his experience “therapeutic and empowering.”

After Elton talked to each person except #2 Pedro Zamora (of course) and #13 Richard Hatch, who’s still in prison. Clay Aiken, who’s #11 despite never being openly gay on a reality show, gave a quick interview in which he said, “Well, thank you for spamming the website, those of you who voted!”—and those people probably aren’t the bitter fans who defended his straightness for years. Here are the top five; interviews and six to 15 are on the site:

  1. The Real World New Orleans’ Danny Roberts
  2. The Real World San Francisco’s Pedro Zamora
  3. Make Me a Supermodel’s Ronnie Kroell
  4. Project Runway 4’s Christian Siriano
  5. Survivor Cook Islands and Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency’s J.P. Calderon

Meanwhile, my friend Victor Balta at Comcast.net recently ranked all 82 American Idol finalists. Give or take one or two placements—I strongly object to David Archuleta being ahead of, well, many people—the top 10 or so are pretty indisputable, including Kelly Clarkson at #1 and Carrie Underwood at #2 (who could arguably be switched).

The list is more interesting later on, particularly since so many of them were easily forgotten. At the bottom, fittingly, is Corey Clark, who Victor calls “the worst ‘Idol’ finalist in history.” Paula Abdul may or may not disagree.

Here are the top 10; check out the full list for his rationale:

  1. Kelly Clarkson
  2. Carrie Underwood
  3. Chris Daughtry
  4. Clay Aiken
  5. David Cook
  6. Jordin Sparks
  7. David Archuleta
  8. Fantasia Barrino
  9. Ruben Studdard
  10. Tamyra Gray
