American Idol

Kelly Clarkson wins two Grammys

Kelly Clarkson’s smash hit and impossible-not-to-love, despite-the-spelling-of-“you” song “Since U Been Gone” has won a Grammy, as has her second album, Breakaway.

The album won for Best Pop Vocal Album, while its second single won for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In that category, she beat Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, and Gwen Stefani. Just like when she won American Idol, Kelly accepted the first award, for the single, through tears, saying, “I’m sorry I’m crying again on national television. You have no idea what this means to me.”

Then she gave the FOX show the finger—metaphorically, at least. She “thanked Jesus, God, the radio, her fans and her mother when she picked up Grammys for best pop vocal album and for best female pop vocal performance, but in two speeches she omitted any mention of ‘American Idol,’” the AP reports.

Backstage, she said the omission was an accident. “No, no! I forgot to thank my dad, the rest of my family. I forgot tons of people,” she said, according to the LA Times’ account. But then Kelly basically said the show used her for publicity during the song rights controversy. “I just think they were trying to get some press,” she said.
