ArchivesFord is extending its involvement in the reality TV business, in addition to its sponsorship of American Idol.
First, the car manufacturer is changing its tagline (to “Bold Moves”) and has signed American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson to help pitch it. The Detroit News reports that the selection “drew praise from dealers and analysts” because she “has recorded several hits … and has cultivated a squeaky-clean image.” A suburban Dallas Ford dealer told the paper, “I think she is an excellent choice. She is not controversial. She real mainstream America.”
Kelly’s first Ford ad will air Tuesday during Idol, of course.
The company “is [also] planning to produce a reality show in which contestants work with Ford designers to produce a hot new concept car,” the paper reported yesterday. Only a teaser for the show has been produced, as “Ford intends to shop the program to networks, according to dealers and company officials.” But the show will involve “designing a dream car,” the paper says.
