Simon Cowell says it “was a mistake” to sign runner-up Justin Guarini to RCA.
Not that Simon Cowell’s superlative insults have impact any more, but they are fun. The latest: Simon says American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini is “a sort of wedding-singer entertainer,” but he prefaces that remark saying it’s “a compliment.” Despite the flattery, Simon says that “signing him was a mistake.” But Justin shouldn’t feel bad, because he has company: Simon also says “Madonna is ‘Over.’ Enrique Iglesias ‘Can’t sing a note.’ Bob Dylan is ‘Too ugly, too boring, too whiny and too serious.’ And Britney Spears ‘can’t sing’ while Mariah Carey has a ‘Great voice’ but must ‘Lose the attitude.’” That’s according to the New York Post’s summary of this week’s TV Guide interview with the Cowell. In it, he also breaks news by saying that Ruben Studdard is “bigger than he ever was,” adding that “Ruben’s weight is literally out of control.”
