American Idol definitely works: Kelly Clarkson’s album Thankful is the number one album in the United States after selling 300,000 copies over the past week. An RCA exec “attributed Clarkson’s first-week sales success to the power of television,” Reuters reports. Additionally, Ryan Seacrest reported on last night’s show that the God Bless the USA single recorded by this season’s finalists is definitely debuting at number one, although Reuters reports that the 100,000 copies sold “[make] it likely to hit No. 1.”
