Simon Cowell to launch TV company to compete with his partner’s company.
Although he “has received large performance fees for his on-screen role and has made money from record sales,” Pop Idol and American Idol judge Simon Cowell “has received no money from international sales of the Pop Idol TV format, phone voting or sponsorship deals,” the Financial Times reports. Because of that, Simon now “has plans to produce music-based TV formats through a joint venture company with Bertelsmann,” which will place him “in direct competition with pop supremo Simon Fuller, his [present] business partner.” No word what this might mean for Simon’s return on American Idol 2.
