Simon will have all three American Idol finalists record a single, making it possible to release the winner’s track in stores “within three weeks of ‘Idol’s’ Sept. 4 finale,” Variety reports. A CD featuring tracks from all 10 finalists will probably be released in October, before the winner’s full-length album is released in December. Also, FOX confirmed the show will return for a second season, although whether or not Simon Cowell and the other judges will return is a question mark. They’ve said they’re interested in a second season, but as Variety reports, “industry insiders believe Fox and the show’s producers may be willing to live without Cowell if his price gets too high.”
