producers’ lawyer says tabloid wrong, Kelly “didn’t have a recording deal.”
After revelations that Kelly Clarkson may have had a recording contract before auditioning for American Idol, which would have been against the show’s rules, a lawyer for those she was recording songs for says The Sun’s story, as reported by the New York Post, was wrong. Instead, “Kelly had a contract to record five songs for the purpose of getting a recording agreement and nothing came of this,” Jay Cooper, the lawyer representing the producers, told Knight Ridder. He says Kelly “did ‘nothing wrong’” and also says the tabloid “got it wrong. … She didn’t have a recording deal.”
+ also: producers: “Kelly Clarkson … did not breach any rules of the competition.”
+ and: Kelly’s stepfather: “She’s never been under any kind of a contract other than the one with American Idol.”
