In Entertainment Weekly’s cover story about American Idol, judge Simon Cowell has praise for the US show’s audience, saying it is “much more sophisticated than the English audience” because they’ve been “absolutely spot-on week to week.” Also in the story, producer Nigel Lythgoe says he will have a “major meeting” with the judges because “[t]hey’ve got to stop biting back at each other. They are not there to criticize each other—they are there to critique the kids.” Asked who will return for American Idol 2, he says, “There are three or four great, talented people that will come out of this series. And they are performers. Not judges, not hosts.”
