American Candidate apps now open to anyone over 18, deadline extended.
John Edwards, John Kerry, George W. Bush, and Lyndon LaRouche might not have to worry about competition from reality TV come November. Showtime’s American Candidate promises that, after winning, the show’s victor “will then have the chance to run for president of the United States.” But that might be impossible, as the show has just opened applications to citizens over the age of 18, including those born outside the US. Producer RJ Cutler tells Zap2it.com, “The number of people under the age of 35 who have contacted us wanting to participate in American Candidate has been overwhelming. If the point of American Candidate is to involve more people in the presidential process, we realized that there is no better way to do that than by removing any restrictions whatsoever from the application process.” Sounds like not enough people under 35 applied. Applications are now due April 9; the winner will receive $200,000.
