As part of its interview with Chrissy Gephardt, Newsweek says that Chrissy “jumped at the chance to test her political prowess” after “her father’s press secretary told her about” American Candidate. She’s one of the candidates whose selection has been criticized, especially after her candidate page was added after it was leaked that they were finalists. She says that she competed against “25 people, and they picked 10. I don’t know how many applicants there were to begin with, but I hear it was a lot more.” Newsweek’s final question to her asks if she’ll run for president. Her apparently non-ironic response says, “…definitely it is something that crossed my mind. But first I need to start as a city-council member or a state representative. I’m not ready to jump right up there. Who runs for president right off the bat?”
