ArchivesFX drops American Candidate; show continues production, looks for new net.
FX has stopped production of American Candidate because it was too expensive. Following the candidates around the country as the audience narrowed the pool to ultimately select a candidate for President was too expensive for FX: the network’s president tells the AP that cutting the budget “seemed like it would compromise the concept.” This is the second network at which RJ Cutler has tried to produce the show; the first was HBO. He is not giving up, telling the New York Times, “Hopefully this will not impact the show. We remain passionate and confident about what this program should be.” Plans are still underway to accept applications for the show starting this September.
