American Candidate winner “is going to emerge as a real potential leader.”
Production of American Candidate is moving forward with plans for a debut in early 2004. The show will be an Idol-like competition between 18 finalists; the winner could run for President. Producer RJ Cutler, who created American High, says “[i]t’s likely that this person is not going to be elected president of the United States. … But their ideas will become part of the discourse. The person who wins this show is going to emerge as a real potential leader in this country.” Applications are still being accepted; around 5,000 people have already applied.
