season two of Airline starts tonight.
The second season of A&E’s Airline debuts tonight, with new episodes airing at 10 and 10:30 p.m. ET. So just how do camera crews find subjects, and how do those subjects react? The Washington Post reports that there are “tricks for engaging the passenger in the filming process.” The network has to get waivers from each subject, never mind getting them to talk on camera. At Baltimore’s BWI airport, there’s a five-member crew, including producer Scott Mislan. He says there are passengers “who definitely want their 15 minutes, and others who want nothing to do with you.” Further complicating production, Southwest “has to provide liaisons to get the crew through security at each airport location and has to monitor which employees have agreed or not agreed to participate.” That might explain why a Southwest PR person first “dumped A&E’s proposal in the trash as soon as she looked at it.”
