A&E cancels Gene Simmons Family Jewels
Gene Simmons Family Jewels has been cancelled after seven seasons and 160 episodes by A&E, but the show’s producers suggested it may live on somehow.
The series exits as the longest-running celebrity reality show, one that was sometimes questioned on its authenticity; Vulture wrote last year gave us “a new kind of ouroboros: The reality-show constructs have permeated our cultural consciousness so thoroughly that fakery has been metabolized into honesty. It’s a weird, distorted honesty, but it’s not exactly lying.”
The network said in a statement that it “could not be more proud of the unparalleled run of Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” while Gene said in a statement, “With Kiss on tour and with my other business commitments, we have decided to draw the final curtain on our show. It has been a wonderful, life-altering experience for our family, and after seven successful seasons, we feel it’s time to move on.”
While that sounds like a definitive end, the show’s Twitter account from its producers wrote, “it’s never the end…it’s merely the beginning of a new chapter.”
