ABC cancels The One after four episodes and “the lowest-rated adults 18-49 debut … in modern TV history”
ABC has cancelled The One: Making a Music Star after just four episodes.
Despite its insane popularity around the world, the ABC version had “the lowest-rated adults 18-49 debut for a reality show (a 1.1 demo rating/3 share) in modern TV history,” as Variety reports. With the following episodes, ratings “declined even further — and Thursday morning, ABC execs decided they’d had enough.”
Perhaps if they’d actually watched the series before airing it, they could have saved themselves the embarrassment; it was a pathetically incompetent attempt to copy American Idol and was basically unwatchable.
Variety notes that ABC “will have to settle up with producer Endemol USA, which was contracted to produce more than a dozen additional episodes of the show at a pricetag likely in excess of $1 million per” episode.
