Tila Tequila: gay marriage legal “because of me”
Tila Tequila, who is apparently still interesting enough to be interviewed by celebrity magazines, credits herself and her joke of an MTV reality show with the legalization of gay marriage in California, because no one every thought of it before they saw her and her maybe-fake bisexuality.
“It is because of me — I definitely think [my show] has helped the movement. Before it came out, everyone was still a little apprehensive about [same sex relationships]. Then they realized, ‘Wow, everyone is really into this stuff, and it is fine.’ The next thing you know, [gay marriage] is legal,” she told Us Weekly.
That begs the question: Is she really that stupid and delusional, or is she just so good at begin an attention-seeking media whore that she knew saying something this provocative would get her back in the news?
First, I’m sure the four members of the California Supreme Court who made the decision watched her show. If any of them have even heard of her, I’d be shocked. Second, during the first season, she ended up in a relationship with a guy, who she unceremoniously dumped and then went on to her second season. So much for same-sex relationships.
More importantly, had she made a more nuanced argument, she might have sounded intelligent instead of like a dimwit. Reality TV certainly has helped make some people more comfortable with gay people and the realities of their relationships, but that dates back to 1971 and An American Family’s Lance Loud, a full 10 years before she was even born. Never mind, you know, all of those gay cast members who appeared on reality shows long before her, from Survivor to The Amazing Race to MTV’s own The Real World, all of which paved the way for her ridiculous shitfest of a show and joke of a career.
