Oscar Pistorius’ dead girlfriend on new South African reality show

Reeva Steenkamp, the 29-year-old girlfriend of Olympian Oscar Pistorius who was shot to death Thursday, is a cast member on a South African reality series that started airing two days after she died.

She’s a cast member on the fifth season of Tropika Island of Treasure (Tropika is a brand name), which debuted Saturday on SABC 1 and featured seven celebrities and seven regular contestants competing for R1 million. Its trailer is below, and it seems to have elements of Survivor, I’m a Celebrity, and other shows.

The series web site says, “We are deeply saddened and extend our condolences to Reeva’s family and friends.” Its executive producer, Samantha Moon, told the AP, “They want it on. This is how they want to remember her. This is what she would have wanted.” And Reeva’s cousin said, “Her last words to us personally was that she wants us to watch it.”

Pistorius has been charged with premediated murder.
