Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler will officially join American Idol today during live event

At 1 p.m. ET today, American Idol will officially announce something we already know: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will join Randy Jackson as judges for the show’s 10th season.

Ryan Seacrest will make the announcement and that will be followed by a press conference, although it’s not clear if that’s going to be a real press conference or a bullshit one like ABC’s DWTS cast announcement. Both will stream live on the show’s web site, on Facebook, and on UStream (watch below).

Is there any chance of a surprise? I wish, but it’s unlikely, which makes this whole thing a bit of a charade. But hey, it’s American Idol: spectacle without substance is what this show does best.

The Quest ends its journey stronger than it began

Verlox from The Quest

A review of the finale of summer's best reality series, which wasn't always perfect but was thoroughly entertaining right down to the finish, which included phenomenal challenges and special effects. Will ABC give it a second season?

Plus: an interview with the actor who played Verlox and the ogre.

Companies that get deals on the show will be followed for this new spin-off.

Also: Before the show began, Shark Barbara Corcoran was cast and then replaced--but then she sent this amazing e-mail and won the job.
