Woz, Holly Madison out of Dancing without a dance-off

Producers of Dancing with the Stars 8 used a double-elimination episode to get rid of Steve Wozniak and Holly Madison. Steve-O and Lacey also ended up in the bottom three, but were spared elimination.

The new dance-off twist was discarded, perhaps because there was no time for three couples to dance off with all of the recapping the show just had to do, never mind allow for an encore dance and extended time-wasting segments featuring interviews with the contestants talking about nothing that was of any interest.

In any case, no dance-off guaranteed that both Woz, who wasn’t in the bottom two last week, and Holly would go home. A convenient time to change the rules.

While Jewel replacement Holly Madison wasn’t that good of a dancer and was kind of forgettable, Woz was the Cloris Leachman of this season–i.e., someone who’s totally entertaining to watch yet openly mocks the series’ seriousness about ballroom dancing just by sticking around. At least he’s leaving before becoming tiresome, which is perhaps more than we can say about Cloris.

Review: Married at First Sight

Marriage At First Sight

In an era of Tinder and Grindr, instant acceptance or dismissal of a potential partner, or instant sex with another body, Married at First Sight offers the thrill of watching strangers deal with the very basics of relationships.

Beyond the headline-grabbing premise, the series has turned out to be a stripped-down, authentic exploration of something very interesting. Read the full review.
