Taylor Hicks will appear in Grease on Broadway this summer

American Idol 5 winner Taylor Hicks is following his many Idol colleagues to Broadway, where he’ll appear in Grease this summer.

He “will begin performances as Teen Angel June 6″ and “is scheduled to stay with the production at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre through Sept. 7,” Playbill reported.

Taylor, who was recently dropped from his record label, is apparently still committed to maintaining a connection to his time on the show. In a statement reprinted by Playbill, he references his fan base, saying, “I am incredibly excited to be a part of one of my favorite musicals. The Soul Patrol’s gonna invade Broadway!” For his sake, hopefully that invasion will be more successful than their record-buying efforts.
