reality blurred is on summer hiatus until July 25

It’s the summer, and time for me to turn off the television and computer as I leave the country and travel for the next 20 days.

During these three weeks, I won’t leave you with nothing to read. Radio shows play “best of” segments, and I’ll do the same, sort of, leaving you with stories from the past seven years, which hopefully will offer some entertainment. The posts on this page will update automatically every day, delivering a selection of the 7,130+ stories that appeared on that day’s date in the past. (RSS feeds will not show these best-of posts.)

While traffic on the web and TV viewership both drop significantly during the summer, I never imagined I’d be really missing any television except for the first few weeks of Big Brother, which tend to drag anyway. But here’s what’s debuting over the next two and a half weeks, which along with other shows will keep my DVR warm:

  • Big Brother 8 [CBS, July 5, Sundays and Thursdays at 8, Tuesdays at 9]
  • The Surreal Life 1-4 [TV Guide Network, July 2, weeknights at 10]
  • Build it Bigger [Discovery, July 10, Tuesdays at 10]
  • The First 48 [A&E, July 12, Thursdays at 9]
  • SWAT [A&E, July 12, Thursdays at 10]
  • A Model Life with Petra Nemcova [TLC, July 13, Tuesdays at 10]
  • Victoria Beckham: Coming to America [NBC, July 16 at 8]
  • America’s Next Producer [TV Guide Network, July 18, Wednesdays at 8]
  • Design Star 2 [HGTV, July 22 at 10, Sundays at 9]

Also during that time, reality blurred will turn seven on July 9. Seven years, just two days after 7.7.07. See you for the start of year eight in just a few weeks.

Surprisingly, man not eaten alive on Eaten Alive

Eaten Alive

Discovery Channel’s happy family holiday special Eaten Alive aired Sunday, rewarding viewers for their two full hours of viewing by ensuring that they spent quality time in the company of others instead of wasting that time doing something else that might not have been as satisfying, such as buying things that have labels which accurately reflect their contents.
