Chris Daughtry signs with 19 Recordings/RCA Records

Chris Daughtry has signed a recording contract with Clive Davis at the same label American Idol 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee is signed, and the same group that owns winner Taylor Hicks label.

Chris will produce a record for 19 Recordings/RCA Records, and it “is due in late 2006,” according to MTV.com. First, Chris “will form a permanent band, but no word yet if it will include members of his pre-’Idol’ group, Absent Element.”

Currently, his “rendition of Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ debuted at #43 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #16 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Tracks, the first song from an ‘Idol’ compilation to chart that high,” MTV.com reports. The track is on the encores CD.

Earlier, Chris turned down Fuel’s offer to be its lead singer.
