Dog the Bounty Hunter married Saturday, one day after his daughter died

Duane Chapman, star of A&E’s Dog the Bounty Hunter, got married Saturday to his partner of 16 years, Beth Smith. The ceremony was filmed, and we’ll see it August 8.

The event was took place one day after a tragedy, however; one of Dog’s 11 children, “Barbara Katy Chapman, 23, was killed in a car accident near her home of Fairbanks, Alaska,” according to the AP. The wedding went on, however, after Dog “gathered with his 10 surviving children — two of whom he had with Smith — and discussed whether to proceed with the wedding.”

A&E VP Michael Feeney said, “They all decided unanimously they should celebrate the wedding and her life.”

Beyond the headline-grabbing premise, the series has turned out to be a stripped-down, authentic exploration of something very interesting. Read the full review.
