MTV’s 8th & Ocean debuts tonight

MTV’s first new series to use Laguna Beach‘s format debuts tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET, after The Real World Key West.

8th & Ocean follows “ten professional models [who] live together in a beachfront apartment complex, each trying to make their way in a glamorous yet very demanding industry.” That industry is modeling, which ensures that the cast is more beautiful than any we’ve ever seen before.

The New York Daily News’ David Bianculli says the show “is a series for people who don’t think much at all,” which means “it’s perfect for MTV.” But while The Boston Herald’s Mark A. Perigard says that the “manly men” who have “the hair products, the waxing and the musculature of 12-year-old girls” should be eliminated from the series, 8th & Ocean “could be as addictive as ‘Laguna Beach.’ It’s not even close to a model show, but sometimes, after a long day, your brain enjoys a wax job.”

Review: Married at First Sight

Marriage At First Sight

In an era of Tinder and Grindr, instant acceptance or dismissal of a potential partner, or instant sex with another body, Married at First Sight offers the thrill of watching strangers deal with the very basics of relationships.

Beyond the headline-grabbing premise, the series has turned out to be a stripped-down, authentic exploration of something very interesting. Read the full review.
