Idol producers publishing magazine.
In an effort to squeeze every last nickel out of the American Idol franchise, producers of the series will publish “American Idol: The Magazine.” The bimonthly mag will debut in January and “will cover everything from the auditions through to the semi-finalists with in-depth behind the scenes interviews and photography,” according to a press release. It will also “feature interactive scorecards for the viewer to record their own comments, impressions and votes for each show, as well as those of the judges.” A FremantleMedia exec says, seriously, that “This is just another example of the innovative ways in which the American public can interact with their favorite brand.” At least the kids will now have something to read when they’re not talking on their American Idol cell phone.
